Meet the Beekeepers

Sara Rudin

In 1991, Sara rummaged through her mom's closet to discover a baton stored in the back. A month later, Mom signed up Sara and her sister for twirling lessons. Fast forward 25 years, and Sara's accolades include state, regional, and national titles, the position of the first Feature Twirler (1999-2003) for O'Connor High School in Helotes, Texas, a position on the prestigious University of Arizona Twirling Line from 2003-2007, and finally, the position of Team Captain in 2006. In 2010, after obtaining her National Baton Twirling Association (NBTA) judging license, she began coaching and judging at the local, state, regional, and national level. Sara has directed and assisted many contests including the 2008 and 2009 Arizona State Twirling Competition. Sara is an advocate for the sport of baton twirling, and she works to promote it locally and nationally.

Kristen Tate

Kristen has been twirling since she was three years old, and her twirling resume is very impressive. She has held many State, Regional, and National titles, and she was a feature twirler at the prestigious Ole Miss University. She currently co-leads practices, private lessons, and helps with routine design and choreography. Kristen's love for twirling is apparent with the time and devotion she has given to the sport. We are lucky to have started this group with Kristen by our side!

Mama Bee, Susan Srulowitz

Susan has played the most important role by supporting her daughters, Sara Rudin and Mary Ann Srulowitz, in their baton twirling adventures since 1991. The Texas Honeybees wouldn't be possible without the love and dedication Susan has put into the sport of baton twirling - not to mention the name was her idea! She is a hair and makeup extraordinaire for baton twirlers, and she will help with the operations, contest preparations, and team meetings for the Texas Honeybees.
